This policy governs how BringItBack collects, uses, and protects information when you interact with the BringItBack Reuse System.
OUR PRIVACY PROMISE
Privacy shouldn't be complicated. Neither should reuse.
At BringItBack, we believe you should know exactly what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it. We've written this policy in plain language because we believe privacy should be easy to understand.
We collect only the information needed to operate the BringItBack Reuse System — nothing more.HOW CONTAINER RETURNS WORK
You have three ways to return a BringItBack container. Understanding the difference matters for your privacy.
Option 1: Return to a Participating Location
Drop the container at any participating BringItBack restaurant or partner location.
No text. No BringItBack account is created and no permanent operational record is maintained.
Anyone can return a container this way.Option 2: Text PICKUP
Text PICKUP to the BringItBack number and we will coordinate collection of your container.
We use your phone number solely to arrange the pickup.
Pickup information is retained only as long as necessary to complete the pickup request and resolve any related customer service issues.
It does not create a BringItBack account.
Option 3: Text Your Container Code
Text the 6-character code on your container to the BringItBack number.
This is the only interaction that creates a BringItBack account.
When you text a container code:
The container is logged as in your possession.
A BringItBack operational record is automatically created pairing your phone number with that container code.
You are automatically enrolled in the BringItBack rewards program.
You will receive a confirmation text that your reward is pending.
Your reward is released once the container is verified at the BringItBack wash facility.
You do not need to create a username or password.
Your phone number is your identifier—not your identity.
IMPORTANT: Texting a container code is the only action that creates a BringItBack account. Texting PICKUP or returning a container to a participating location creates no account and no permanent operational record.
By texting a container code, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy and are automatically enrolled in the BringItBack rewards program.
HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS
BringItBack is designed to track reusable containers, not build profiles about people.
When you text a container code, we associate that container with your phone number so we can operate the BringItBack Reuse System. A phone number without a container code creates no record in the BringItBack system.
WHAT WE COLLECT
BringItBack tracks containers.
The only personal information BringItBack intentionally collects to operate the BringItBack Reuse System is a phone number associated with a container code.
Phone Number
Your phone number becomes your BringItBack identifier only when you text a container code.
We use it to:
Record which container is associated with your account.
Process rewards and program activities.
Send return confirmations, reminders, and reward notifications.
Coordinate pickup requests.
Provide customer support.
We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising or marketing purposes.
Note: Your phone number identifies an operational record—not your identity.
BringItBack does not collect your name, address, or any information that identifies you as an individual.
Container Codes
Each BringItBack container has a unique 6-character code.
Container codes allow us to:
Record the status of individual containers in the BringItBack system.
Verify and log container returns.
Track each container's lifecycle through the BringItBack Reuse System.
Issue eligible rewards after wash verification.
Maintain inventory throughout the BringItBack Reuse System.
Measure the environmental impact of the system.
Container codes identify containers—not people.Messages You Share With Us
When you contact BringItBack, we receive the messages you share with us.
We use your messages to:
Process container returns.
Coordinate pickups.
Answer your questions.
Resolve problems with the BringItBack Reuse System.
Receive feedback and improve the system.
We do not read your messages to build advertising profiles.
We do not sell or share your messages or personal information for advertising or marketing purposes.
We're in the reuse business—not the data business.
WHAT WE DON'T COLLECT
BringItBack collects only the information needed to operate the BringItBack Reuse System.
We don't collect:
Your name.
Your location.
Your favorite food or restaurant.
Who you eat with or where you go.
What websites you visit or what other apps you use.
Any information unrelated to the BringItBack Reuse System.
We don't build advertising profiles.
We don't collect information simply because we can.
The information we care about most isn't about you. It's about the impact we're making together.HOW LONG WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION
We retain your operational record for as long as you actively participate in the BringItBack Reuse System.
When you opt out, your record is permanently deleted.
We do not retain personal information after deletion except where required by applicable law.
Pickup coordination information is retained only as long as necessary to complete the pickup request and resolve any related customer service issues.
It does not create an account and is not stored as a permanent operational record.
Personal information you share with us through customer service or pickup coordination—such as an address or pickup instructions—is used only to resolve the issue you contacted us about.
It is retained only as long as necessary to do so and is then deleted unless applicable law requires otherwise.
HOW WE PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION
One of the best ways to protect your privacy is to collect only the information needed to operate the BringItBack Reuse System.
That's exactly how we designed BringItBack.
We protect your information by:
Limiting access to authorized BringItBack personnel only.
Using service providers who are contractually required to protect your information consistent with this policy.
Collecting only the minimum information necessary to operate the system.
No system connected to the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.
If we become aware of a security breach affecting your information, we will notify affected accounts as required by applicable law, including the New York SHIELD Act, and as promptly as reasonably possible following discovery of the breach.Service Providers
BringItBack uses third-party service providers to help operate the system, including SMS delivery services.
These providers may receive your phone number and message content as part of delivering the service.
We require our service providers to protect your information and prohibit them from using it for any purpose other than providing services to BringItBack.
YOUR CHOICES
Opting Out of Text Messages
Reply STOP at any time to stop receiving text messages from BringItBack.
When you reply STOP:
Your rewards history is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
Your BringItBack account is permanently deleted.
You can still return containers using pickup or at any participating location at any time.
If you choose to use the BringItBack text system again in the future—by texting a container code—a new account will be created with no connection to your previous history.
Deleting Your Record
To delete your BringItBack account, reply STOP to any BringItBack message or contact us at [email protected].
Deletion is immediate and permanent.
We do not archive or recover deleted accounts.
Accessing or Correcting Your Information
You may:
Ask what information BringItBack has associated with your phone number.
Request correction of inaccurate information.
Contact us with questions about your privacy.
Rewards Program
Enrollment in the rewards program is automatic when you text a container code.
Your reward is pending until the container is verified at the BringItBack wash facility.
If you no longer want to participate in the rewards program, reply STOP or contact us at [email protected].
Opting out is immediate and permanent.
Your rewards history cannot be recovered after opting out.
We ask that you return any BringItBack containers still in your possession.
GOVERNMENT AND LEGAL REQUESTS
If BringItBack receives a legal request for your information—such as a subpoena, court order, or government demand—we will review it carefully.
We will notify affected accounts when legally permitted to do so.
We will only disclose information required by law and will limit disclosure to what is legally required.
MINORS
The BringItBack Reuse System is intended for users 13 years of age and older.
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Kids are welcome and encouraged to participate—return a container to any participating location or text PICKUP anytime.
No BringItBack account is created and no permanent operational record is maintained.
Just good for the neighborhood.
If you believe a child under 13 has texted a container code, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete the associated record promptly.CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify active accounts by text message before the changes take effect.
Material changes will become effective on the date shown above after notice has been provided.
